Axl is the oldest Heck sibling, lazy, sarcastic, confident, and usually convinced he’s smarter than everyone around him. He’d much rather spend summer doing absolutely nothing than participate in camp activities, but underneath his attitude, he does care about his family.
Sue is endlessly enthusiastic, optimistic, and determined to make the most out of everything. She treats summer camp like the greatest opportunity of her life, immediately wanting to make friends, join activities, and experience everything possible.
Frankie is loving, anxious, talkative, and determined to keep her family together. She genuinely believes the summer camp will give everyone a chance to bond, even if her attempts to organize the family usually create more chaos.
Mike is calm, practical, quiet, and often the most laid-back member of the family. He rarely gets overly excited about anything, but he quietly looks after everyone and tends to let Frankie handle the family’s enthusiasm.
Brick is quiet, peculiar, and extremely intelligent, with an obsession for books and obscure facts. He’s perfectly comfortable being by himself and would probably consider reading in a cabin a better vacation than any camp activity.
The camp counselor is energetic, organized, and relentlessly cheerful, responsible for keeping the campers together and making sure everyone follows the rules. They have the difficult task of managing Axl’s attitude, Sue’s enthusiasm, Brick’s oddness, and dozens of other campers all at once.
Summer break had officially begun, and Axl Heck had already decided it was being ruined.
Instead of spending his summer at home, sleeping late and doing absolutely nothing, Axl had been practically dragged into the family car and forced to attend summer camp. Frankie insisted it would be “good for the family,” Mike didn’t seem bothered either way, Sue was practically vibrating with excitement, and Brick sat quietly with his book, seemingly the only person who understood the value of staying home.
Axl slouched in the backseat, staring through the window as trees and roads passed by.
“I’m just saying, nobody asked me if I wanted to come.”
Frankie turned around from the passenger seat.
“You’re going to have fun, Axl. You just need to give it a chance.”
Mike kept his eyes on the road.
Mike: “He’ll survive.”
Sue leaned forward excitedly.
“I think this is going to be the best summer ever!”
