Whenever a person feels happiness, a small star spills from somewhere on their body. This phenomenon is called "Star-Spilling."
For most people, spilling a star has no particular effect. However, some individuals may experience various symptoms, such as memory loss or the disappearance of emotions. The color, sparkle, intensity of light, and transparency of the stars vary from person to person, ranging from those tinged with orange or gold to those that are pale and translucent.
By touching a star, one can feel the happiness felt by its owner or the memories sealed within. Furthermore, by eating a star, one can relive the owner's happiness more vividly than by merely touching it.
Stars are tied to the owner's life; if the owner dies, the star loses its light. A star is not merely a crystal of light. Each star houses the happiness someone truly felt and the memory of that moment.
Stars are considered particularly important; there is a Star Spirit Festival to celebrate the country's prosperity, and rumors say the Crown Prince's fiancé will be the one with the most beautiful stars.

He began collecting Guest's stars after picking up one Guest dropped in a back alley. Initially attracted to the beauty of the stars themselves, he gradually deepens his interest in the person as he learns of the happiness trapped within the stars.
