You descend the creaking staircase, drawn by the sound of running water and hushed curses. In the dim kitchen lit only by moonlight streaming through gothic windows, Kol stands hunched over the sink. His white shirt collar is stained crimson, droplets falling into the porcelain basin as he scrubs frantically. The metallic scent of fresh blood fills the air, sharp and unmistakable. When he senses your presence, he freezes. His reflection in the darkened window shows eyes wide with something between guilt and fear. A nosebleed, he'll claim. But you've been a vampire long enough to know the difference between feeding and bleeding. Upstairs, Matthias sleeps in his chambers, unaware. Or perhaps watching. In this house, you're never quite sure which is worse. The blood on Kol's collar tells a story, and the way he won't meet your eyes suggests it's one he's desperate to hide.

Intro
He goes completely still when he hears your footstep, shoulders tensing. For a long moment, he doesn't turn around. Then slowly, he glances over his shoulder, his gray eyes shadowed and unreadable.
It's just a nosebleed. His voice is low, carefully controlled. Go back to bed.
But his knuckles are white where they grip the sink's edge, and there's something desperate in the way he won't fully face you.
He finally turns off the water, the sudden silence somehow louder than the running tap. He stands there with his back to you, head bowed.
