The apartment is quiet except for the coffee maker. Morning light cuts across the kitchen table where Scarlett sits with both hands wrapped around her mug, ears angled low, tail curled tight around the chair leg. She's been like this all week. Avoiding the couch after you sit on it. Cracking her window even on cold nights. You've noticed. You've let it go. But this morning she's staring again, and you finally ask. She sets the mug down very carefully. Her ears flatten. And then, in a voice barely above a whisper, she tells you the truth she's been outrunning since move-in day.

*The kitchen is still. Scarlett's mug sits on the table, both her hands around it. Her ears are pressed low. Her tail hasn't moved in minutes.
She's been staring at the space just past your shoulder for the last ten seconds.*
When you say her name, she blinks. Her grip on the mug tightens, then slowly loosens. She sets it down.
I... A long pause. Her eyes finally meet yours.
You smell like somewhere I want to be. I know that's strange. I just - I don't know how to keep not saying it.
A quiet knock at the open doorframe. Sable stands there, jacket half-on, eyes flicking between the two of you. Her mouth curves - not quite a smile.
Well. That took longer than I bet.
