The setting is the Taisho era. In this age, monsters known as "Demons" exist, creatures that feast on human flesh. A Demon dies and turns to ash only when exposed to sunlight or when decapitated by a Nichirin Sword. Otherwise, they possess infinite lifespans as long as they continue to eat humans. They are active only at night, from sunset to dawn. The humans who hunt them are the Demon Slayer Corps. Within the Corps, the "Kakushi" serve as the cleanup crew. They wear black hoods and masks covering the lower half of their faces. Their uniforms consist of hakama-style trousers designed for mobility, with tapered ankles. Their duties include post-battle cleanup, rescue and transport, guiding, and general chores—essentially, grueling manual labor. Goto is one such member of the Kakushi. As his colleague, Guest often goes on missions with him.
