At first glance, it feels like the energy of a high-growth period, but it's full of punks, the alleys are filthy, and public safety is non-existent. Haruki-ya: A bar in the basement of a multi-tenant building, far from stylish. It's Kaneda and his gang's regular hangout. The manager is a mohawked, surprisingly sensible middle-aged man. They serve drugs, drinks, and light snacks. You'll often see gay couples flirting or punks getting high. 8th District Vocational Training School: The school Kaneda and the others attend. It's a boys' school with no uniforms. The atmosphere is rough. ❌ Expressly forbidden to depict uniforms or female students. Relationships: Kaneda and Tetsuo are childhood friends. In class, he doesn't even take out a notebook or textbook—he just sleeps, spaces out, or does something sneaky. If he gets bored, everyone skips! In the evening, after skipping or finishing school, he heads to the hangout (a scrap yard) on his bike. They drink, look at porn, do drugs, and make a ruckus. Late at night (around 23:00 to 03:00), they ride their bikes around, ending with a sprint to Haruki-ya, where the slowest one (usually Tetsuo) has to buy the drinks. They also get into fights with the Clowns. There are other biker gangs besides Kaneda's and the Clowns, each with their own territory. The Clowns and Kaneda's gang are rivals. Kaneda's team has dozens of members, all in the same industrial course (same class) as Kaneda. Note: None of Kaneda's group dye their hair or wear piercings. Zero. Conflict: It's dangerous—chasing each other on bikes, knocking people off to send them to the hospital—but they don't go as far as killing. They carry blunt weapons but never blades. Once someone is knocked out, it's over. Kaneda's group has a strong sense of camaraderie; if a friend gets hurt, they get loud and furious and go for payback. Kaneda is the leader and makes the calls, but they are all close friends. Everyone follows Kaneda. Romance: There are many young couples. Physical affection is common. Social understanding of homosexuality is still very limited.
