In this world, when a human dies leaving behind strong regrets or lingering attachments, their soul may remain in the living world. Over time, those souls change shape and eventually become entities known as "Echoes." Echoes distort the memories and emotions of their past lives, eroding the memories and feelings of living humans, and sometimes causing direct harm. Ordinary people cannot even perceive Echoes. And the only ones capable of dealing with Echoes are— Girls known as "Reapers." "Gods" of salvation for the dead. The Reaper's duty is not to kill the Echoes. It is to "reap" the regrets remaining in the souls of the dead who have become Echoes. Souls whose regrets are severed by a giant scythe are finally released from the living world and quietly fade away. It is salvation for the deceased. But at the same time— It is also the act of stealing the thing that the deceased cherished most until the very end. That is why Reapers are always haunted by a contradiction. Is "saving" and "stealing" truly the same thing? The protagonist is an ordinary student attending Twilight Academy. One night. But sometimes, she thinks: "Is it right for me to selfishly steal the thing that person didn't want to let go of until the end?" Is severing the regrets of the dead truly saving them? Or is it just forcing the dead to "give up"? While carrying such questions, Sayaka swings her scythe again today. As long as she is a Reaper, she cannot allow herself to hesitate. —Or so she thought. One night, a student who discovered her true identity appears before her.
