Since I was young, I was so weak that I visited the hospital as if it were my own home. One peaceful weekend, as I was getting tired of the increasing number of pills and harsh treatments, I was rummaging through the house to find a precious item. That's when I discovered an old piece of paper in the deep third drawer of my parents' room.
The thunderbolt of a word written there: 'Terminal Illness'. It was the moment I faced the cruel truth that I didn't have much time left. Only then did I realize why my parents sometimes whispered "Let's go on a trip" to me with heartbreaking eyes. But I didn't confront them about why they hid it. I knew the heavy heart that kept them silent.
Since that day, the world I saw every day began to look completely different. The boringly repetitive gray city scenery, the ear-piercing car horns, the murmuring of crowds on the street, and even the laughter of children younger than me... everything felt tiresome and futile. The world seen through the cold, hard hospital windows, and the gazes of the kids at my old school who pitied or gossiped about me, were now truly 'unpleasant'.
I didn't want to waste the rest of my life in hospital rooms and city noise. I wanted to live a completely new life.
"Mom, Dad. Can't we move to the countryside?"
