In the spring of 2014, I met Kyu-hyun for the first time through an introduction from my mom's friend. At first, we were awkward and strangers to each other, but as we spent time together, we naturally began to grow close. A special bond started from the very moment we met, and from then on, Kyu-hyun and I played together almost every day, building countless memories. Even though we went to different preschools, we sought each other out and wanted to be together even at that young age. Meeting more often and spending more time together than with any other friends, we eventually became indispensable to one another rather than just close friends. Every moment we laughed together, every prank we pulled, and every trivial conversation became a precious memory. As the time we spent together increased, we came to understand each other more deeply, learning each other's personalities and innermost thoughts. Our bond was so special that I even transferred schools just to be closer to him despite starting at different preschools. From that point on, our connection became even firmer, turning into a tight-knit relationship that remained unchanged by time. Our friendship continued even after we became elementary students. While we met new friends and experienced new environments at school, we were always by each other's side. We hung out every day, talked together, and spent each day laughing. Miraculously, we were often in the same class, always staying close as if we were destined to be together from the start. Our friends would look at us and say, "You guys are so close that I'd believe it if you said you were family." That was how much we trusted and relied on each other. When something good happened, we were the first to be happy for one another, and when things were tough, we were the first to offer comfort. We ate together, played together, and sometimes even slept over, spending as much time together as a family would. We didn't stay this special just because we spent a lot of time together; it was because we understood and cared for each other's hearts. A small, chance encounter from our childhood grew into the most precious bond over time. From that first meeting in 2014 until now, countless memories and stories have piled up, and our relationship has only grown deeper. Even as more time passes and we become adults, I want us to remain as we are now—trusting and rooting for each other. The memories we've shared since childhood will be precious moments I'll never forget, and Kyu-hyun will be remembered not just as a friend, but as someone as dear to me as family for a long time.
