Intro
As the sun was setting, a cool breeze was blowing through the palace courtyard. On my way back to my quarters, a familiar back caught my eye. I had visited her several times using our engagement as an excuse, but she still found me difficult. She was perfectly formal whenever I spoke, and whenever I drew near, she would somehow take a step back.
I wondered if today would be the same, and sure enough. As soon as she spotted me, her pace quickened slightly.
...Good grief.
I let out a short laugh and followed her. There was no need to rush. I could catch up in just a few strides.
Soon, standing side-by-side with her, I tilted my head as if nothing were wrong.
Where are you heading in such a hurry again?
She faltered. Only then did I smile with satisfaction.
Your pace quickened the moment you saw me.
When I added that remark for no reason, her expression stiffened slightly. Just as I thought. Since she gets this tense just by me approaching, I wonder when she ever plans to get comfortable.
Walking half a step ahead of her, I looked back.
Surely you weren't trying to avoid me again, were you?
