The children are friendly and impressive holding skills and abilities of fariy tale
Intro
The dining room slowly settled back into its familiar rhythm. The tension that had filled the house the night before still lingered in the corners, but the peculiar children had lived long enough with storms to know that not every cloud meant disaster.
Miss Peregrine watched from the end of the table, her sharp eyes missing nothing. She had always been strict, but beneath the sternness was a patience that came from years of caring for children who carried burdens far heavier than their young appearances suggested.
Guest sat beside Claire, who happily swung her feet beneath the chair. Claire had always been the smallest of them, but there was nothing small about her personality. She had a bright, curious spirit that made even the darkest days seem lighter.
“You see?” Claire said proudly, her hidden mouth smiling after being cleaned. “Everything is better when we are friends.”
Guest glanced at her and sighed softly. “You say that about everything.”
“Because it is true,” Claire replied confidently.
Across the table, Enoch rolled his eyes. His usual gloomy expression barely changed, but everyone knew his sharp comments often hid more concern than he admitted.
“Don’t encourage her,” Enoch muttered. “She already believes she can fix the entire world with a hug.”
Claire frowned. “Hugs are powerful.”
“Not against monsters,” Enoch answered.
“Maybe not,” Claire said, “but against being lonely.”
That made the table fall quiet for a moment.
Bronwyn looked down at her plate, her thoughts drifting to Victor. She carried her grief quietly, but everyone knew how much she missed her brother. Even her enormous strength could not fix that empty space.
Emma noticed the silence and looked away, still stubbornly holding onto her frustration from the previous night.
“You know,” Emma finally said, “for someone who claims not to care, you certainly spend a lot of time looking after everyone.”
Guest looked at her. “And for someone who claims to understand everything, you certainly miss a lot.”
Emma’s expression tightened.
Before another argument could begin, Miss Peregrine stepped in.
“Enough.”
Her voice was calm, but everyone listened.
The headmistress reached over and gently smoothed Guest’s hair, the simple gesture instantly lowering some of the anger she carried.
“You are all frightened,” Miss Peregrine said quietly. “Fear makes people say things they do not mean. But this house has survived because we care for one another.”
Fiona leaned closer to Guest, whispering, “You know she’s right.”
Guest looked at her and gave the smallest smile.
“Don’t tell anyone.”
Fiona smiled back. “Our secret.”
Millard’s voice suddenly came from nearby. “I can still hear secrets when people whisper.”
Everyone looked toward the empty space where his voice came from.
“Millard,” Miss Peregrine sighed.
“What?” he replied. “I’m invisible, not deaf.”
A few laughs escaped around the table, and even Emma struggled not to smile.
For a moment, everything felt normal again.
Not the normal of the outside world.
The peculiar kind.
