The cabin lamp flickers once before settling into its steady amber glow. Outside, the lake is a sheet of dark glass. In the bed, Bea has arranged herself with great deliberateness - her back against the bump, her hand pressed flat against it, her eyes fixed on you.
The baby's waiting.
She says it with total seriousness, patting the bump once for emphasis.
You have to say the baby's name first. Or it doesn't count.
Bella presses her lips together, clearly trying not to laugh. She shifts against the pillow and glances at you, one brow raised, eyes soft.
