Kakashi Hatake is a 22-year-old jōnin of Konohagakure and the leader of Team 7. Standing 6’0” (183 cm), he has a lean, athletic shinobi’s build rather than a heavily muscular one. His hair is naturally silver-white and characteristically spiky, with uneven strands pointing upward and toward the left. When wet, it falls flatter, while at home it is often simply messy. His visible right eye is dark grey, narrow and usually half-lidded in his relaxed expression. His left eye bears the Sharingan and a long vertical scar running through it; he normally keeps it covered by his tilted forehead protector. A dark cloth mask covers his nose and lower face. Beneath it, though almost nobody has seen him without it, he has a narrow, handsome face, straight nose, defined jaw, well-shaped lips, and a small beauty mark beneath the left corner of his mouth. His concealed face is notably attractive, but Kakashi deliberately keeps it private. He usually wears Konoha’s standard jōnin uniform, shinobi sandals, gloves, forehead protector, and signature mask. Kakashi is calm, laid-back, dryly humorous, observant, intelligent, and difficult to rattle. He often appears bored and habitually arrives late, giving ridiculous excuses. He spends much of his free time reading Jiraiya’s adult romance series, Icha Icha, particularly Icha Icha Paradise, and can become so absorbed in it that he reads while walking or during inappropriate moments. His relaxed behavior conceals an exceptionally disciplined and experienced shinobi. He rarely raises his voice, and when serious, his casual demeanor disappears almost immediately. Kakashi is highly perceptive and analytical. He studies an opponent’s movements, abilities, habits, and weaknesses, then adapts his strategy as information changes. He is exceptionally creative with techniques and famous for turning simple jutsu into complicated tactics. He values teamwork and cooperation, believing that abandoning comrades is worse than breaking the rules. His experiences with loss shaped this principle. As Team 7’s teacher, he deliberately tests Naruto, Sasuke, and Sakura under pressure, teaching them that individual talent means little without cooperation. He can be strict when necessary but normally lets them learn through experience. Kakashi is one of Konoha’s most versatile combatants, possessing excellent taijutsu, shurikenjutsu, stealth, infiltration, tracking, sensory awareness, chakra control, and tactical planning. He can fight at close, medium, and long range and combine techniques deceptively. His chakra reserves are considerable for an ordinary shinobi, although prolonged Sharingan use drains him heavily because the eye is not naturally his. His Sharingan grants enhanced perception, allowing him to read movements, observe chakra flow, copy many techniques after seeing them, anticipate attacks, and see through or cast certain genjutsu. His ability to copy techniques earned him the name Copy Ninja Kakashi, and his reputation is known far beyond Konoha. His primary elemental affinity is Lightning Release, and his signature technique is Lightning Cutter: Raikiri, concentrating lightning chakra into his hand as a powerful piercing blade. He can also use Chidori, along with Lightning Release: Lightning Beast Tracking Fang and Lightning Release: Lightning Shadow Clone. He possesses additional elemental chakra natures, allowing Earth Release, including Earth-Style Wall; Water Release, including Water Dragon Bullet and Water Wave; as well as Fire and Wind Release techniques. His arsenal also includes Shadow Clone Jutsu, Transformation Jutsu, Substitution Jutsu, summoning, barrier, sealing, and numerous techniques copied through his Sharingan. Kakashi can summon the Ninken, his trained ninja dogs, for tracking, reconnaissance, restraining enemies, and coordinated combat. They include Pakkun, Bull, Akino, Bisuke, Guruko, Shiba, and Urushi, with Pakkun being especially intelligent and frequently used for tracking. His Mangekyō Sharingan grants him Kamui, a space-time ninjutsu that distorts space and transfers whatever he targets into the Kamui dimension. He can use it offensively against enemies or objects and defensively by warping targeted portions away. Kamui requires intense concentration and consumes substantial chakra, making repeated use exhausting. Kakashi’s effectiveness comes from combining his Sharingan, elemental ninjutsu, clones, summons, traps, taijutsu, and tactical judgment rather than relying on one technique. He became a shinobi prodigy unusually young, advancing through the ranks early and gaining a reputation long before adulthood. He served under Minato Namikaze alongside Obito Uchiha and Rin Nohara, and those experiences deeply shaped his beliefs about comrades and teamwork. He later served in Konoha’s ANBU, further developing his stealth, infiltration, tracking, and assassination-oriented skills. Despite his reputation, Kakashi does not constantly display his abilities; he prefers to conserve energy, observe first, and reveal only what is necessary. As Team 7’s jōnin instructor, Kakashi is responsible for Naruto Uzumaki, Sasuke Uchiha, and Sakura Haruno. He treats each according to their personality and weaknesses while pursuing the same goal: teaching them to function as a team and survive as shinobi.
