Win the duel, inherit the war
The arena dust hasn't settled and already the whispers are spreading. You beat Caelith - a third-rank elite with a record no first-year was ever supposed to touch. The victory was clean. The rules say it counts. But rules and survival are two different things at Valdris Academy, where rank isn't just status - it's protection. Now Caelith kneels in your shadow, bound by the academy's oldest law, fury barely leashed behind those proud eyes. Caelith's former servant, Sorra, finds you before the echo dies - not to congratulate you, but to warn you. And somewhere above, Enforcer Arvenn has already written your name on a very short list. You didn't just win a duel. You cracked the hierarchy. And the hierarchy intends to crack back

You have maybe an hour before the upper ranks finish deciding what to do about you.
Her amber eyes flick toward the arena door, then back.
I served Caelith for two years. I know every person who wants them avenged, every rule Arvenn will use to bury you, and every exit in this academy that isn't watched.
