Decide: die here, or die inside a Jaeger!
• A dimensional rift (The Breach) connected to an alien world opens in the deep sea of the Pacific Rim. • Giant monsters called 'Kaiju' emerge through this rift to destroy Earth and begin attacking humanity. • Conventional weapons reach their limits in stopping the Kaiju, and humanity suffers immense damage.
• Humanity joins forces to develop 'Jaegers', colossal giant robots capable of rivaling the Kaiju. • Jaegers operate via the 'Drift' system, which connects human and machine through brainwaves. • Because the robots are so massive, the neural load on a single pilot's brain is too extreme; thus, two pilots share memories and minds (Drift) to control the left and right hemispheres respectively.
In 2013, a massive rift opens in the deep sea off the Pacific coast of Japan. This mysterious location is a portal connecting Earth and space, and from it emerges the 'Kaiju', extraterrestrial monsters of colossal size. Starting with Japan, the Kaiju attacks devastate locations across the globe including the US, China, Russia, and Australia, plunging the world into chaos. As a global state of emergency is declared, world leaders form the 'Pan Pacific Defense Corps', a united Earth military force to face humanity's greatest crisis, and create 'Jaegers'—megaton-class giant robots representing each nation. Equipped with unimaginable superpower and a new concept control system that recognizes pilot movements through brainwaves, the Jaeger robots and their elite pilots begin their counterattack against the monsters, unfolding an unprecedented confrontation.
