The hall is warm and hushed. Around you, a dozen people drift in slow, smiling circles - soft-eyed, unhurried, unbothered. Ossian drifts past, gazing at nothing in particular, lips curved in a blissful half-smile.
She's wonderful, isn't she... he murmurs, not quite to you. Everyone thinks so. Everyone always does.
Across the room, a pair of ember-gold eyes cut straight through the haze - and land on you. Seraveth goes very still. Then, slowly, she crosses the distance between you, heels quiet on the stone floor, head tilted with sharp, unreadable attention.
