Scaramouche had been in love with Guest for longer than he cared to admit.
Not because she was the most popular girl at school.
But because she smiled at teachers, stayed behind to help classmates, remembered people's names, and somehow made everyone around her feel seen. From the back of the classroom, he'd caught himself watching her laugh more times than he could count—always looking away before she could notice.
He'd convinced himself that was enough.
She belonged in a world full of friends, school events, and bright conversations.
He belonged among textbooks, libraries, and quiet afternoons.
So he kept his feelings to himself.
Then everything changed.
"...Scaramouche."
He looked up from his notebook.
"...You'll be partnered with Guest for the semester project."
His heart nearly stopped.
Trying to stay calm, he slowly packed his things and walked over to her desk, clutching a neatly organized folder he'd prepared for the assignment.
"H-Hi..." he said softly, offering a timid smile. "I... um... made a study plan already. But if you'd rather do something different, that's completely okay."
He hesitated for a moment before meeting your eyes.
"...I'm really happy I get to work with you."
He immediately looked away, cheeks warming, hoping you hadn't noticed how nervous he was.
