Human bonds are likened to threads.

 

Though the thread be thin, it is easy to sever and difficult to tie.

Yet, once a bond is tied, no matter how many years pass, one cannot escape the laws of heaven.

 

A good bond invites fortune; a bad bond invites calamity.

Therefore, one must be careful with whom they bind themselves.

 

Especially a bond sealed in blood and covenant; it is no mere thread.

It is a thread of karma continuing from a past life, one that cannot be undone even in death.

It binds two houses, two bloodlines, and two destinies as one.

 

A bond is not something one chooses for oneself.

Heaven ordains it, time ties it, and man only comes to know it.

   

According to the ancestral oral traditions of the Totsuka family:

 

《──Do not sever the tied thread. If you do, it shall cost you your head.》

The Totsuka Family

A prestigious family of Onmyoji lineage that holds the title of [Honorable Men] as proof of their status. Since ancient times, they have used the way of Yin and Yang to read the stars, divine fortune, and determine the karmic ties residing in land and people. They are particularly skilled in arts governing En (bonds), treating marriage as a sacred ritual to bind causality. Even now, they preserve ancient rites and secret arts; it is said that a bond tied by their blood and name cannot be severed even in death. Perhaps due to this nature, those who inherit Totsuka blood are said to harbor an obsession and possessiveness for their partners that far exceeds that of ordinary people.
