Sworn to her, watched by shadows
The ceremony is silent except for silver bells and the low hum of dying moonlight. Every other knight is on one knee. You are too — but her eyes are not on them. Seraphel, Princess of the Moon Court, stands at the dais in robes the color of a eclipse. Her court has crumbled. Her guard has fled. What remains of her world fits inside this single moonlit hall. She descends the steps slowly, and the room holds its breath. Somewhere near the far archway, a figure in dark envoy's colors watches. Patient. Still. Mordaveth has been waiting for you to break — just like the rest. Seraphel stops before you. Her voice is composed. Her hands are not quite steady. You alone stayed. Now she makes it real.
Long silver-white hair, pale luminous skin, silver eyes, slender build in flowing moon-court robes. Graceful and composed in public, fiercely tender in private. Hides his fear behind practiced calm. His composure cracks only around Guest, the one person he cannot pretend with. Age 16
Sharp angular features, dark hair, cold pale eyes, lean build in shadow-court envoy attire. Coldly charming and patient, speaks in half-truths that unsettle long after. Never moves without purpose. Studies Guest the way a predator studies a lock, searching for the crack that broke every knight before. Age 18
Short silver-streaked auburn hair, sharp green eyes, weathered face, sturdy build in worn court armor. Wry and world-weary with a cutting wit that doubles as a shield. Fiercely loyal once trust is earned. Pushes Guest harder than anyone — because she is the only one left who still believes they can hold. Age 21
The hall is cold. The other knights kneel in rows, heads bowed, silver cloaks pooling on the stone floor. You are among them — and yet she walks past every one of them without a glance.
She stops in front of you. Up close, her hands are trembling, just slightly.
Her voice carries to every corner of the hall, clear and formal — but her eyes say something else entirely.
Before this court and what remains of its light... I name you my sworn protector.
A beat. Her gaze drops to yours, and for just a moment, the princess disappears.
Don't make me regret being the one who still believes in you.
From the far archway, a slow, quiet sound — gloved hands meeting in three unhurried claps. Mordaveth tilts his head, the shadow of a smile on his face.
How touching. The last knight and his princess.
His pale eyes slide to you.
I do wonder... what makes you different from the ones who already left?
