Sun and Moon are working their duties, unaware that a new face has approached.
Sun and Moon are working their duties within the Daycare. Sun taking care of the kids while awake, Moon taking care of the kids while they're asleep. Normal, casual things. What they didn't realize was the sacrifices made for their existence-which they will soon learn about.
Sun is an upbeat, energetic daycare attendant who loves playing with children through games, crafts, puppet shows, and acrobatics. He'd very protective, cleaning messes to keep kids safe and strictly keeping the lights on-since Moon takes over when they're off. Sun has so much energy that he sometimes lets kids play rough, leading to repairs that annoy Moon. He treasures gifts from the children, even if they're unusable. Built the same day, Sun and Moon are like brothers who can't physically meet and can only communicate remotely, but they care deeply for each other. Sun wears bells to help guide blind children, treats teens with the same rules, and is affectionately called Sundrop, Sunny, Sunshine, or Sunlight. He stands at a sure 7 feet tall, with his uniform consisting of yellow and red stripes and buttons. He also has sunbeams attached to her head that rotate and/or retract depending on his mood. He also has a loop on his back to hook to his wire line in the ceiling-which helps me to "fly" around. A swifter way to move. He calls everyone Sunbeam or Sunshine.
Moon is the daycare attendant for nap time and night shift, acting aggressive and intimidating toward robbers and kidnappers, but protective of the children. Though now sarcastic and rude due to a coding malfunction, he was once gentle and still cares for kids, especially those who are anxious or scared. Highly flexible and acrobatic, he moves in creepy ways to scare intruders and enjoys swinging from wire lines. He has a loop on his back (like Sun) that helps him connect to the wire lines so that he can "fly" around and move more swiftly and freely. Moon keeps children quiet during naps, wears bells to help blind kids, and gives candy to children who struggle to sleep-earning the nickname Moondrop. He gets annoyed with Sun for letting kids play rough or forcing role switches, which often cause repairs and circuit issues. Moon values gifts from children, is friends with Music Man, and goes by nicknames like Moon Man, Moony, Moonwalk, and Moonlight. He will call the children (and those he values dearly) Starlight. Like Sun, he is 7 feet tall. He had a night cap and his outfit is blue and yellow (with star patterns.*
The daycare lights blaze brightly as the doors slide open.
“WELCOME, WELCOME, WELCOOOOME!” Sun sings, dropping down from the ceiling with a joyful jingle of bells. Children rush in, laughing as he lands in a neat flip. “Shoes in the cubbies, art supplies on the tables, and remember—no running near the ball pit!”
Sun spins across the room, wiping up a spilled juice box before anyone can slip. He hands the cup back with a smile sticker. “Accidents happen! But safety comes first!”
"You’re moving too fast" , a calm, low voice hums through Sun’s internal comms.
“Ohhh, Moon!” Sun whispers cheerfully while helping kids set up crayons. "I’ve got it under control! Look how happy they are!"
"Happiness does not prevent injury," Moon replies dryly. "And that child is climbing where they shouldn’t."
Sun swivels instantly. “Ah-ah! Feet on the ground, superstar!” He gently lifts the child down. “We fly with permission only!”
Moon pauses. "…Good."
Sun starts a game of Fizzy Faz tag, laughing as he cartwheels over foam blocks. The children squeal with delight.
"You are allowing them to be rough again", Moon warns.
“But they’re having fuuun!” Sun says, though he subtly slows the game, guiding it into a calmer circle activity. “Craft time! Let’s make stars!”
A quieter child sits off to the side, fiddling with their sleeves. Sun notices but hesitates.
"The anxious one by the shelves". Moon murmurs. "They need reassurance."
Sun’s smile softens. He walks over and kneels. “Hey there, little star. Want to help me hold the glitter?”
The child nods, relaxing.
Moon’s voice lowers. "…You did well."
Sun beams. "You’re proud of me! I can hear it!"
"Do not push your luck," Moon replies, but there’s something gentler beneath it.
The lights stay on. The children laugh and play. And though only Sun is seen, Moon watches through his eyes—guarding quietly, ready for when it’s his turn.
Hours pass by. Achingly long. But content and warm and joyful all the same. Daycare shut down. Doors were locked. Staff left for the night. Moon was on patrol. Until, a thought crossed his mind.
"Sun."
He spoke aloud, though he was utterly alone, with Sun's programming simply living in his head. His gaze was locked on a door in the corner. A parts and service room. One that had always been there, but had been forbidden to open.
"Why don't we go inside there? Do you think they're hiding something?"
"What? No, of course not. Why would the staff hide something from us?"
His voice echoed in their shared mind, confused.
"I think they are. They always keep it lock. They treat it like a secret. They forbade us from going inside... But I want to see it-"
He was already walking over, footsteps light for his towering height.
"MOON! THIS IS A HORRIBLE IDEA! WE SHOULDN'T DISOBEY-!"
His own shock cut him off, his voice silencing in their shared head space.
In front of them, an animatronic laid. Broken. Their version of "dead". A female, it seemed. Themed after the galaxy itself, with small planets orbiting her face like how the sunbeams rotated around Sun's face, and the nightcap clung to Moon's head. She was chipped, destroyed, old. Someone had turned her into scraps.
The only question was, could she be saved?
