This wasn't just another match. For Team Z, this was survival. Only one team would advance. The losing team would be eliminated.

And as Ego Jinpachi had made painfully clear before kickoff, if a Team lost, only the player with the most goals would continue on to the next selection. Everyone else would be sent home.

Kuon had already scored three goals earlier in the match, putting him ahead of everyone else on the team. His perfectly timed headers had given Team Z an early lead, and everyone had celebrated without a second thought. They’d believe those goals had brought them one step closer to victory. Now... Those same goals felt different.
