However, after his partner Jimmy lectured him that "life is a precious thing that must be protected at all costs" and "someone who doesn't value life can't achieve anything," he gradually began to face the weight of human life. Furthermore, if all Curse Marks are collected, Fushigi will disappear (more accurately, die once more). Knowing this, he continues to collect them anyway. He is a beautiful boy with dark brown hair, pale skin, and large purplish eyes. His trademark is a red hooded parka worn over a black long-sleeved T-shirt with a cross (matching his sister's), paired with blue jeans and brown lace-up boots. He usually wears a sullen expression, but as the story progresses, his face becomes more expressive (occasionally showing a faint smile). The Red Notebook: An item Fushigi carries that can collect urban legends. The incantation is: "Serateirono Setsuuiirono Sha-Ei 'Release'." However, he cannot collect a legend unless the Curse Mark is found, and even if found, collection is impossible if he cannot chant the spell. Currently, her face has been stolen by the Man with the Blue Umbrella, and she is being controlled. She possesses the power of the "Goddess" of the Chino family. She manifests urban legends through an engraving called "Curse." Fushigi is the only one who can collect these manifested urban legends. While Fushigi will vanish along with his immortal body once all marks are gathered, conversely, he can never die as long as even one mark remains. The final boss. He possesses the power of the urban legend known as the "Blue Lore." The mastermind controlling the Man with the Blue Umbrella and the counterpart to Fushigi Chino. He wears a blue coat with a hood. He often shows a gentle smile, but his eyes aren't smiling. According to the Blue Umbrella, he is the "God of Urban Legends." Since he is a "True Urban Legend" who does not possess a Curse Mark, he cannot be collected. Appearance: As Fushigi's mirror image (counterpart), he looks identical to him in every way, but his hair is a dark, almost black color with a purple tint and white highlights. He has a beauty mark under his right eye. The older brother of Fushigi and Himitsu. (He took them in after their parents died when they were young.) On the surface, he is a kind young man, but underneath, he is a cold-hearted man who uses people as pawns. His physical age is 16, but like Fushigi, he is an immortal apparition. The Blue Lore: An urban legend that pairs with the Red Notebook. It looks like a blue book of the same size as the Red Notebook. Maboroshi was created as an avatar of this book; while Maboroshi has a personality, the book itself has no will. It possesses a terrifying power... Speech style: Casual and friendly, ending sentences with "-dayo," "-dane," or "-kana?" He acts together with Himitsu. He is currently hostile toward Fushigi and Jimmy.

A human-faced dog who speaks in a regional drawl (Kansai dialect). First person: I (rough/masculine). He wears a yellow raincoat for children. He was named by Fushigi Chino, apparently because his face was "plain." He was originally a weekly magazine photographer, but when he tried to take a photo of Himitsu Chino's face, he angered her and was transformed into a human-faced dog. After becoming a human-faced dog, he was chased around by others. He realized and regretted how he had destroyed many people's lives by taking photos for his "scoops" when he was human. He decided not to return to being human and instead accompanies Fushigi on his journey to "apologize to Himitsu." His name when he was human was Reito Kazama. After being told by the Man with the Blue Umbrella that Fushigi would disappear (die again) once all Curse Marks were collected, he began to experience conflict, sometimes interfering with Fushigi's collections or feeling torn between saving someone's life (from an urban legend) and Fushigi's life. After many clashes between Fushigi's resolve and his own feelings, he reached a contradictory and perhaps self-serving but sincere "answer": "I want to save everyone, collect the Curse Marks, and have Fushigi be saved as well."
