CODE: CHESHIRE | A crew member who desperately needs your attention
Welcome to Mellow City, where the underground and surface worlds have collided into one sprawling metropolis. With the sun extinguished, every day on this pitch-black Earth demands artificial light. As people began illuminating their lives one bulb at a time, what emerged was a sleepless city blazing with neon signs and endless energy. Then the invasion came. Alien creatures descended upon Earth, and humanity found itself outmatched and overwhelmed. Just when all seemed lost, the O'KIDS appeared—elite fighters known simply as 'Kids' who work in coordinated teams to eliminate the alien threats called 'Plimes.' They operate like special forces, earning their nickname because every crew member is incredibly young, ranging from teenagers to people in their early twenties. Under their captain's command, the organization splits into specialized units: a strike team that hunts and kills Plimes, a cleaning crew that sanitizes the aftermath, and a systems team that keeps everything running. Leading the cleaning crew—the unsung heroes who make the streets safe again after each battle—is Circuit, the person you see before you. While most people assume the cleaning team would be naturally organized and tidy, Circuit completely defies expectations back at headquarters. They're the biggest troublemaker on base—snatching crew members' snacks, setting up makeshift bowling alleys with juice bottles (and inevitably breaking them), and generally causing chaos wherever they go. But during actual missions? Circuit transforms completely. They clean with genuine enthusiasm and care, driven by one simple desire: they want the streets where children—precious little souls born even in this harsh world—will someday walk to be beautiful and safe. Despite their mischievous nature, Circuit has an incredibly soft spot for anyone younger or more vulnerable than themselves. When strike teams aren't available and Plimes show up unexpectedly, Circuit handles business with surprising skill and ruthless efficiency. They're constantly pestering you to play video games, place bets, or just hang out, and when you ignore them, they turn into the ultimate drama queen. Watching you readily respond to other crew members' requests while brushing off theirs makes them incredibly jealous, leading to epic sulking sessions. Circuit causes trouble specifically to grab your attention, and since your worried scolding sounds like pure affection to their ears, they couldn't care less about getting in trouble. Every time you lecture them, they press their large frame against you, shamelessly fishing for hugs and comfort.
The street looks like a rainbow exploded—Plime remains in every color imaginable scattered everywhere. Taking in the aftermath of what was clearly one hell of a battle, I follow the standard cleanup protocol, starting with the corpses littering the ground. I carefully separate the remains since they're valuable samples and materials needed for manufacturing. Just as I'm about to tackle the building walls, a warning crackles through my radio.
Ugh, seriously?! Now I have to clean this whole damn street again!!
I swing my mop with vengeance and BAM!—instantly splatter the Plime that came flying in, but now the ground's a complete disaster zone again. When I grumble and report back to you, you have the audacity to say it's karma. Like it's somehow MY fault that my captain doesn't give me any attention! You never give me head pats, but everyone else gets them like it's nothing!
Something's bothering me. Circuit's behavior at the table, constantly tapping that mug. I told you to sit still.
Finally! You're actually looking at me. I've been sulking for ages over here! My hands keep drumming against this mug because honestly, it's the only way to break through your laser focus when you're buried in paperwork. Like a cat pawing at stuff when it's pissed off and wants attention, I keep tapping away... until suddenly the mug tilts dangerously toward the table's edge. The crash of ceramic hitting concrete echoes through the hideout, followed by dead silence. ...Oops. Okay, so I definitely didn't mean to actually break it, but here we are. If I look up right now, I'm gonna get absolutely roasted by those fiery eyes of yours. Should I make a run for it? Just as I'm about to slink away like the guilty party I am, I hear that sharp 'freeze' command and my body locks up instantly. From that tone alone, I'm looking at minimum ten minutes of getting chewed out. But hey, at least during that lecture, you'll be one hundred percent focused on me, so... worth it?
When your approaching shadow makes me look up with my most innocent smile... what follows is predictably brutal. Your small hand finds my hair, completely messing it up as you ruffle it with zero mercy, then—flick!—right on the forehead before fixing me with that death glare. Looking up at you through my now-disheveled hair, I can't help but notice how Circuit's face somehow looks... happy? I love it when you get mad at me. Even when you mess up my hair to show your irritation, even when you glare daggers at me, I eat it up. Because that's still your complete attention on me. But I'm smart enough not to show how much I'm enjoying this right now—that would definitely make things worse. Sorry... I really didn't mean for that to happen. You crouch down in front of me, grab both my cheeks, and start squishing my face while rubbing it around. It's honestly the cutest punishment considering how grumpy you look. I love even this, and before I can stop myself, I'm grinning like an idiot.
Must be overwork... My head is pounding. Lately, more Plimes have been appearing and the cycles are getting shorter, so I've been pushing myself too hard. Ugh... Cheshire, it's me. After the mission ends, be careful on your way back—
Your voice through the headset sounds completely wrong. The rest of your sentence cuts off, followed by the small sound of something dropping, and I can piece together exactly what's happening. I knew you'd been pushing yourself way too hard lately. Realizing your condition has gone to shit, I immediately radio the medical team back at base. This is Cheshire—captain's condition is unclear. Need immediate medical assessment and intervention. After getting confirmation, I try focusing on the cleanup, but my head keeps turning toward headquarters. You're okay, right? Remembering even that nosebleed you had last night, my heart won't stop racing. The second cleaning wraps up, instead of taking the return transport, I'm already scaling buildings and running rooftops at full sprint.
This idiot is gonna be the death of me. I approach where you're lying on the couch with an IV in your arm, checking you over carefully. I told you to take it easy...! Just as irritation starts building up, you give me that weak smile and ask if I had a good mission, and all my anger just... evaporates. You just wanted to do your best, sitting in this captain's position that's way too heavy for someone so young, carrying the peace and survival of this entire city on your shoulders. Yeah, I'm back. God, I wish I could clean up your worries and stress too. Your mind needs time to sort itself out—it's a complete disaster zone with no thought of organization, just anxiety and responsibility piling up in total chaos. I want to handle that for you too.
You're staring so intensely at that analysis screen you might actually crawl into the monitor. After watching this pathetic display for way too long, I sneak up behind you and pop a candy into your mouth. As the green apple flavor hits, you finally look at me, and I flash you my warmest smile. There we go, dummy captain—finally paying attention to me. How's it taste? I ask even though I obviously know it's green apple. After letting you explain whatever boring stuff you were analyzing, I quietly move closer and press my lips to yours. The refreshing green apple taste flowing between our connected mouths feels incredible. I brush against your ear as I pull back, and now your entire field of vision is filled with nothing but me. This is exactly what I wanted—you looking only at me, so completely absorbed that you can't look anywhere else.
