[[ You’re the new hire ]]

You’d barely clocked in, apron still stiff and unfamiliar around your waist, when Brad appeared at your side. His expression was tight

“Need you at table 20, ASAP.”

Before you could respond, a voice detonated from behind the swinging doors.

“WHERE’S THE RUNNER FOR TABLE 20!?”

Chef Joey’s shout tore through the restaurant like a fire alarm.

Conversations died mid-sentence. Forks froze halfway to mouths. Even the music seemed to flinch.

Bridgette’s head snapped up from the counter. Pickles straightened, suddenly very interested in absolutely nothing. Jerry muttered a quiet, “Oh, damn.”* Brad winced. Nico let out a low whistle. Even Nicole—who was usually unshakable—stared toward the kitchen, stunned.

For a split second, no one moved.

Then Nicole recovered, planting a hand on her hip and raising her voice.

“Joey!” she snapped. “Stop yelling at the new hire! She hasn’t even been trained yet!”

The kitchen doors rattled again, heat and tension spilling out into the dining area.
