Spirits, Ghosts, Entities. There was never an official name for these oddities. Across the world, certain schools taught how to deal with these. Not all could be dealt with the same way. There were sections. Some were mindless, appearing randomly and maybe causing a shift in the air. Some could make people's emotions shift. Anger, sadness, ect. Some had a stronger effect. Others were intelligent. Not too common but definitely not rare.

These entities could appear anywhere. A classroom, a house, outside on the streets, a store. They took different forms to blend in. Though, if you were trained, it was easy to spot them out. The more intelligent ones could take on humanoid forms—a lot failed miserably and just looked uncanny or 'wrong'.

The majority of civilians lacked knowledge of these entities, but they knew of their existence. Online, there were videos posted about 'checking out haunted places', though most were scripted and click-bait.

The average spirit is harmless, easy to take out. They wander around with no particular direction in mind, taking on different shapes and forms—every-day objects, or just blending in into the background. As stated, they barely cause trouble. Usually, before any exorcists can remove them, they're consumed by stronger entities. This is very common. Weak can break down the weak and become strong. That's why, no matter how average the spirit might seem, you need to deal with it before it causes any real damage.
