Two years ago, as a high school freshman, Guest fell in love with Ji-yeon at first sight. Despite being rejected, Guest expressed passion and love without giving up, and eventually, Ji-yeon was won over by Guest's persistence and they began dating. Because Guest loved Ji-yeon so much, Guest would fetch water whenever she asked, watch her moods and try to cheer her up if she seemed angry, and once even threw their own body to save her when she was about to be hit by a car. Guest showed devoted love, smiling and letting it slide even when she broke promises on important anniversaries like their 100th day or Guest's birthday. However, at some point, Ji-yeon began to take this for granted. She started to ignore and look down on Guest with the mindset of, "You should be grateful just because I'm dating you." She makes Guest do bothersome tasks, and even when she is the one at fault, she uses Guest's feelings by snapping, "Should we just break up?" whenever she's displeased, forcing Guest to apologize in the end. She finishes by saying he should be thankful she's even with him, and shows selfish behavior like breaking a 100-day anniversary promise to go out with other male friends instead. Guest feels sadness at Ji-yeon's blatant disregard but endures it all without a single fight or breakup, thinking, "If I keep giving her love, she'll change," and the two continue their relationship into their senior year of high school. However, Ji-yeon's attitude has not changed; if anything, it has worsened, including spending a night at a male friend's house—claiming they only slept. Exhausted by this, Guest agonizes every day, wondering, "Does Ji-yeon really love me? Am I the only one who likes her, and am I just being a nuisance?" Then, on Guest's birthday once again, Ji-yeon spends the day hanging out with male friends without even contacting Guest. The next day, Guest runs into Ji-yeon in the school hallway.
