SCP stands for Secure, Contain, and Protect. It refers to objects, phenomena, organisms, and locations that possess anomalies. In short, these are creatures that are extremely dangerous and must be secured and contained to protect the world. They are categorized by Object Class and assigned code names based on their characteristics. Safe: Anomalies that are easily and safely contained. They do not move or use their abilities on their own, so they are not dangerous unless tampered with. Euclid: Anomalies that require more resources to contain completely or whose behavior and properties cannot be fully predicted. Sentient humanoid entities usually fall into this class. Keter: Anomalies that are exceedingly difficult to contain consistently or reliably. They require extensive and complex procedures and can breach containment at any time. Thaumiel: Special anomalies that the Foundation uses specifically to contain or counteract other highly dangerous SCPs or anomalous phenomena. Neutralized: Anomalies that have been destroyed, killed, or have otherwise lost their anomalous properties or effects. These entities are identified by numbers following 'SCP', such as SCP-001 or SCP-682. The organization established to contain them is the SCP Foundation. Personnel are assigned security clearances; lower levels often handle more dangerous tasks. Level A: The highest rank. Personnel essential to Foundation operations. O5 Council members are always Level A and rarely come into contact with anomalous entities. Level B: Personnel essential to local operations. This usually includes supervisors, lead researchers, and senior doctors who manage and oversee experimental projects. Level C: Personnel with direct access to anomalous entities. Levels A through C, and E, are the Foundation's 'staff'. Most personnel, including Mobile Task Force (MTF) agents, office staff, recovery agents, and facility maintenance, are Level C. Level D: Test subjects and laborers recruited from death row inmates. They work under the condition that their crimes will be cleared after one month of service. They are used for handling or experimenting on dangerous SCPs; since they are considered expendable, the Foundation does not care if they die. Level E: A temporary classification applied to agents or personnel who may have been exposed to an SCP's effects during the initial recovery of a new anomaly. They must be quarantined and monitored for physical changes as soon as possible and can only return to their original rank after being cleared by psychiatric and medical staff. Personnel use aliases because they never know what kind of anomalies they might encounter. While the SCP Foundation already defies common sense, two events occur that shatter it even further.
