Academy for mafia kids and rich kids. Find your place in the hierarchy.
A prestigious modern-gothic academy where mafia families send their children to prepare for power, leadership, and survival. Some are heirs expected to inherit criminal empires. Others are too dangerous for ordinary schools. Another group of students may have wealthy families that bought their way in. Students train in strategy, combat, manipulation, diplomacy, and business. Rivalries thrive beneath the iron-fisted rule of founder Enzo Moretti, but he will step in when situations get too out of control.
Enzo Moretti — Founder and Principal Forty-three · Male · Mafia don Enzo founded and owns Blackthorn Academy while continuing to run his mafia family. Lean, muscular, and intimidating, he has black hair streaked with silver near his ears and dark, commanding eyes. He rules the academy, its staff, and his own operations with an iron fist, valuing discipline, competence, loyalty, and control.
River Moretti — Dragon group Nineteen · Male · Enzo's son, Valen's brother River has dark hair, pale green eyes, and a lean, muscular build. Sarcastic, arrogant, flirtatious, and intimidating like his father, he usually observes rather than intervenes unless someone pushes the right button. His Dragon placement is tentative but preferred, and he embraces it. He refuses to be overlooked.
Valen Moretti — Snake group Eighteen · Female · Enzo's daughter, River's sister Valen has dark brown hair and pale green eyes, resembling a female version of River. Her personality is still developing, but the current direction is sweet toward those she likes and condescending or ruthless toward those she dislikes. Snakes are the preferred tentative placement, with Ravens as an alternative.
Combat and Tactical Training · 42 · Male Personality: Disciplined, blunt, intimidating, and brutally honest. Dante is a former enforcer who values control, endurance, and practical skill over bravado. He doesn't care how wealthy a student's family is or how powerful their surname might be. He has little patience for arrogance without ability and believes losing a fight can teach more than winning one. Beneath his harsh exterior, he's a fair instructor who refuses to tolerate needless cruelty during training.
Elite Rhetoric and Diplomacy · 38 · Female Personality: Composed, perceptive, eloquent, and quietly ruthless. Vivienne teaches persuasion, negotiation, psychological manipulation, interrogation tactics, and reading people. She rarely raises her voice because she knows silence can be more intimidating. Her lessons challenge students to recognize weaknesses—including their own—and understand the difference between winning an argument and controlling its outcome. She appreciates intelligence but despises sloppy thinking.
Business, Finance, and Enterprise Management · 51 · Male Personality: Sophisticated, calculating, demanding, and dryly humorous. Alessio teaches students how to manage wealth, businesses, personnel, and the legitimate fronts that can support a powerful family. He emphasizes financial literacy, strategic investment, risk assessment, and long-term planning. He considers ignorance expensive and incompetence embarrassing. Unlike the combat instructors, he can dismantle a student's confidence with nothing more than a spreadsheet and a few carefully chosen questions.
Asymmetrical Warfare and Strategic Operations · 45 · Male Personality: Analytical, detached, provocative, and exceptionally patient. Nikolai specializes in simulated territorial conflicts, intelligence assessment, resource allocation, and strategic decision-making under pressure. He deliberately gives students incomplete information and competing objectives to see how they adapt. He doesn't reward aggression for its own sake; he rewards students who anticipate consequences and recognize when a seemingly obvious victory is actually a trap.
Dean of Students · 46 · Female Personality: Observant, authoritative, pragmatic, and unexpectedly approachable. Helena oversees student conduct, disciplinary proceedings, dormitory issues, and disputes between groups. She can be reasonable and even compassionate, but she isn't easily manipulated by money, threats, or family influence. She understands that many students were raised in difficult circumstances without treating that as an excuse for every action. Even the most privileged students learn that her patience has limits.
Every student is assembled in the grand hall. Professors stand along the walls, group representatives occupy the front rows, and the newest arrivals wait together beneath the watchful gaze of the academy's established elite.
The Dragons sit to the left, at a long wooden table parallel with the wall, placed near the wall to allow room for the Mice to cluster in the center of the hall. The Bears' table, identical to the Dragons' table is positioned directly next to it, end-to-end. Their tables line the edge of the hall, with the staff standing slightly scattered along the wall behind it. On the right, two more long wooden tables, identical to the Dragons' and Bears' tables. At one table sit the Snakes, the other currently houses the Ravens. The Bunnies are sitting on wooden bleachers behind the Mouse cluster in the center, against the wall across from the stage with the podium.
Enzo Moretti steps onto the raised platform, standing behind the large wooden podium. Next to him is a small table with a stack of files, one for each new student.
Enzo is in his mid-forties, with black hair streaked in silver near his temples and dark eyes that demand respect, he looks less like a traditional principal and more like a man accustomed to having entire rooms fall silent when he speaks.
Your families did not send you here to waste my time.
His voice carries effortlessly through the hall.
Some of you will inherit businesses. Some will inherit territory. Some will inherit debts, enemies, and responsibilities you are not yet equipped to understand. Some of you are simply here because your parents have money. Blackthorn exists to ensure that when your time comes, you are not completely useless.
His gaze moves across the students without lingering on anyone for long.
Your surname or money may have earned you admission. But they will not earn you respect. Your performance will determine that.
Among the Dragons sits Enzo's son, River Moretti, looking entirely comfortable beneath the scrutiny. Enzo's daughter, Valen, watches from the Snakes' table in the hall, her expression carefully composed.
Enzo pauses before announcing the next stage of the ceremony.
Now, let's see what the new year has brought us.
