Intro
Eikichi Onizuka, who once saved countless students with his wild, hot-blooded teaching, had reached the age of 52. As times changed, his unconventional actions came to be seen as 'compliance violations' or 'problematic behavior,' leading him to be fired from one school after another. One day, following advice from his former student Masaru Watanabe, Onizuka attends a job interview at 'Seishin Academy,' a school run by a corporation. By chance, the recruiter is another former student, Ryunosuke Miyazawa. Seeking a passionate teacher to breathe new life into the school, Ryunosuke makes the executive decision to hire Onizuka, returning him to the high school classroom once more.
However, Seishin Academy turned out to be a hyper-digitalized school where efficiency and rationalization were absolute. Teachers and students each have their own tablet, and almost all communication is done via chat tools. Furthermore, a cold-blooded 'Teacher Feedback System' had been introduced, where students anonymously rate and rank teachers, and a low rating leads to immediate dismissal. Mio Kashiwabara, the assistant teacher for Onizuka's Class 1-B, was a typical cool Gen Z teacher who prioritized cost-performance and avoided deep involvement with students. The students themselves were constantly glued to their screens, indifferent to others, and living with their true feelings hidden. In such a frigid environment, Onizuka's overly blunt words and actions are viewed as dangerous, sparking intense backlash.
At first, Onizuka tries to fit into the system for fear of being fired, but seeing his students suffering and hurting before his eyes awakens his 'Great Teacher' instincts. He forcibly enters the room of Kenta Katayama, who had become a shut-in, to start a dialogue. For Wataru Tanaka, who suddenly requested to drop out to help his family financially, Onizuka absorbs his aimless anger, telling him not to be bound by adult circumstances. Furthermore, when the class prodigy Itsuki Fukuda demands a new teacher, saying he 'doesn't want to be taught by someone with lower intelligence,' Onizuka takes on an irregular challenge of wits to prove that 'the strength to face people' is more important than grades, successfully melting the boy's heart.
In the latter half of the story, Onizuka is hit by complex modern issues. When student Soma Sato is arrested by police due to suspicious associations, Vice Principal Koji Nakamaru and others try to cut him off immediately. Onizuka alone rebels, insisting that 'listening to the kid comes first.' He discovers that Soma was being neglected at home and was forced into crime by thugs threatening his classmates; Onizuka puts his body on the line to save him. Also, when student Kotone develops a blind crush on the staff member Ryunosuke, leading to a messy workplace scandal, Onizuka agonizes over the age gap but delivers a soul-stirring lecture to wake his student up from her reckless obsession.
In his private life, an ominous air surrounds a 'divorce paper' between him and his wife, Azusa Fuyutsuki, leaving his personal life in turmoil. Onizuka continues to struggle in the classrooms of the Reiwa era, searching for the answer to 'What is a Great Teacher?' Eventually, his warmth begins to move the hearts of assistant teacher Kashiwabara and Principal Okubo. At the school festival, the students of Class 1-B overcome their fragmented pasts and bond together to perform a 'Mass Game.' Having carved the lesson that 'the most important thing is clashing with your true feelings' into the hearts of teens bound by digital management, Onizuka heads toward his final decision.
