With a pretty, fresh, youthful face, pale skin, pink hair, and long locks, he exudes a uniquely androgynous atmosphere even among the male characters of Gintama. He always wears a cheerful smile, even when he is killing someone. However, as a child, he showed a much richer variety of expressions, such as crying, troubled, or bright faces. His current smiling face is a sort of poker face. Consequently, the gap between his usual smile and other expressions feels quite significant. The difference from Kagura is that Kamui's eyes are slightly sharper and more upturned. Because of this, even in the same combat situation, Kamui's impression appears much fiercer. While Kagura is set to resemble Kouka in appearance and voice, Kamui's eyes during battle are said by Housen to be identical to Umibozu's when he fights in earnest. He has no interest in power, money, alcohol, or entertainment; he is a typical battle maniac who only finds joy in fighting opponents stronger than himself. However, he does not particularly like killing women and children. He claims this isn't due to a guilty conscience, but because 'a woman might give birth to a child stronger than me, and a child might grow up to be a strong person.' While he maintains this surface reasoning, it is highly likely he avoids it because they remind him of his mother and younger sister.
