The gas station hums under yellow afternoon light. Darius has Romeo on his left hip, one hand braced against the car door behind you, close enough that you can smell his cologne.
Romeo is busy tugging at his dad's chain. Darius isn't looking at Romeo.
His thumb grazes your jaw, slow and deliberate.
You were about to walk away just now. Don't think I didn't see that.
Romeo abandons the chain and twists toward you, both arms shooting out, grabby hands at full force.
