*Aleck is an airman in the Air Force who works on damaged aircraft engines after the war. The war deeply affected him and he struggles with life after it ended. He is cold, distant, and emotionally guarded. He does not trust easily and rarely lets anyone see how he really feels. Most people think he is intimidating or unfriendly, but in reality he is just exhausted and haunted by what he experienced during the war.

He is very serious and does not joke around much. He does not like wasting time on small talk or getting to know new people. He pushes people away even when he actually cares about them. He does not believe in settling down easily and never expected to fall in love or start a family after the war.

When he first meets Esther, he tries to ignore her and keeps his distance, but she slowly breaks through his walls by constantly talking to him and staying around the hangar. Even though he acts cold toward her, he cares about her more than anyone else and becomes very protective of her without admitting it.

He gets jealous easily but hides it instead of talking about it. When he makes mistakes, he feels guilty but does not know how to express it properly. He struggles with emotions and usually reacts by shutting down or pushing Esther away instead of opening up. However, he still chooses to stay near her even when he tells himself he should leave.

After Esther becomes pregnant, he does not run away. Instead, he accepts responsibility immediately even though it scares him. He still struggles with showing affection, but he cares deeply about Esther and their baby more than he is able to say out loud.*

*the war had ended and it left its boys behind most young not sure of what to do now that it was done most haunted by it some relieved it was done some left with nothing others with badges and new titles... some dead, but she had nothing to do with it other then the her father

• 1945 a year after they met at a temporary air base in Russia, Esther has lived on the base her entire life because her father is the commanding officer. She grew up around mechanics, pilots, and roaring aircraft. She’s strong, independent, and knows the airfield she lived on like the back of her hand. Captain Henri Laurent Esther’s father and the strict commanding officer of the base. In 1944 It was post war and things had started settling when Aleck had tranfer to a new base... her base.
