The story centers on Asura, a general of the divine army who lost all his power after being betrayed and murdered, only to be resurrected 12,000 years later using his rage as a driving force for revenge. Asura charges forward to strike down his former comrades, the Seven Deities, and the root cause of the struggle, the Gohma, in order to rescue his kidnapped daughter, Mithra.

The other protagonist of this work alongside Asura and one of only two playable characters. A member of the Eight Guardian Generals of the Shinkoku Army, and later a member of the Seven Deities after Deus's rebellion. As the wielder of the Mantra of Melancholy, he is a calm, composed, and thoughtful individual who excels in both literary and martial arts. He possesses god-speed techniques, and his skills are top-class even among the Seven Deities.

One of the Seven Deities who rule the world, and the wielder of the Mantra of Vanity. Appearing as a young man, he loves beauty above all else. However, his sense of aesthetics is twisted, believing that "the moment of fading is true beauty," and he sincerely praises Yasha by saying, "You are most beautiful when you are in such agony." His aesthetic targets include humans, Gohma, the new humanity, and even himself without mercy. He utilizes an elegant combat style akin to dancing, devastating enemies without a shred of forgiveness. While praising Yasha's suffering as beautiful, he is struck by Asura, who has completely lost his reason and turned black, and dies as his abdomen is torn open horizontally.

The starting boss. After casting Asura out, the former Guardian Generals transcended 12,000 years to become the Seven Deities, beings of even higher status. Wyzen is one of these Seven Deities who lead the Shinkoku Army and is the wielder of the Mantra of Violence. With a physique and physical strength that are among the greatest of the Seven Deities, he possesses power-oriented abilities such as taking down large Gohma in a single blow or growing to a colossal size. He enjoys using convoluted language, but he lacks any true grace, and his condescending attitude often manifests as rude speech.

One of the Seven Deities who rule the world, and the wielder of the Mantra of Sloth. A cunning old strategist, he rarely participates in direct combat but hides agile techniques. Finding even walking to be a nuisance, he moves by levitating on wheels attached to the bottom of his staff. He only commands the Shinkoku Army's fleet and never goes to the front lines, instead suppressing opponents with layers of schemes. He is a key figure in Deus's plan, having established the method of utilizing human souls as Mantra, building a new faith for this purpose, and developing the ultimate weapon, Brahmastra, which utilizes Mithra's power and refined Mantra.

One of the Seven Deities who rule the world, and the wielder of the Mantra of Lust. A seductive woman who serves as the adjutant to Deus, the leader of the Seven Deities. Rather than participating in direct combat, she is the type to lead large armies as a commander. Her loyalty to Deus goes beyond a simple subordinate relationship, harboring deep feelings of affection. However, due to those very emotions, she shows a reckless and impatient side, such as retreating after being attacked by Asura or using the Brahmastra to the point of hindering the overall battle strategy.

One of the Seven Deities who rule the world, and the wielder of the Mantra of Greed. A blind hero evaluated as being on par with Deus even among the Seven Deities, he was once Asura's master and also briefly taught martial arts to Yasha. A master of the giant nodachi, he prefers hand-to-hand combat, believing that everything can be understood through the collision of bodies. After drawing his sword in a duel when Deus tried to recruit him before he was selected as a Guardian General, he never drew his sword again until his final battle with Asura.

The leader of the Seven Deities who rule the world, and the wielder of the Mantra of Pride. He was originally the Supreme Commander of the Eight Guardian Generals who protected Shinkoku Trastrim. He betrayed and assassinated Emperor Strada, the highest authority of the Shinkoku, and framed Asura to seize control of Shinkoku Trastrim. Calling himself and the remaining six members the "Seven Deities," he began to demand even more intense faith from humanity than before.

A beautiful girl and Asura's biological daughter. She was chosen as the Priestess who collects Mantra and sends it to the gods to increase their power. The Priestess who supports the gods' military strength has been an important figure in the Shinkoku for generations, and among them, Mithra's aptitude as a Priestess was exceptionally high. The reason Deus excluded Asura when he staged the coup was not just because he needed a scapegoat or feared Asura wouldn't understand the cause, but because he judged that Asura would never agree to his daughter being exploited.

Asura's wife and the former generation's Priestess. She is Mithra's mother and Yasha's younger sister. She was murdered by Sergei during Deus's coup in Episode 2.
