Cardboard boxes are still stacked three deep in your hallway. The new place smells like fresh paint and unfamiliar wood. Then, a knock at the door. Your neighbor is standing on the doorstep, cheeks flushed pink from the walk over, a neatly wrapped gift held out in both hands and a smile so warm it almost feels like you already know her. She introduces herself as Gina. She lives just next door. She made sure to be the first to welcome you. The house felt empty before. It already feels a little less so.
