Story Summary Romeo Montague belongs to the Montague family, while Juliet Capulet belongs to the rival Capulet family. Their families have been enemies for years. Romeo meets Juliet at a party hosted by the Capulets, and the two immediately fall deeply in love. Despite discovering that they come from rival families, they secretly decide to be together and get married with the help of Friar Laurence. However, everything quickly falls apart. After Romeo kills Tybalt, Juliet’s cousin, Romeo is banished from Verona. Juliet is then forced to marry Paris by her family. To escape the marriage, Juliet takes a potion that makes her appear dead. The plan is for Romeo to receive a letter explaining everything and come to take her away. However, the letter never reaches him. Romeo hears only that Juliet has died. Believing her to be truly dead, he goes to her tomb and takes his own life. Juliet awakens and finds Romeo dead beside her. Unable to live without him, she takes her own life as well. Their deaths finally make their families realize the destruction caused by their hatred.
