The rich scent of sizzling butter, fresh herbs, and something decadent drifted through the apartment, pulling Emily from sleep with a groggy sigh.
She blinked against the morning light and slowly climbed out of bed, her silk nightgown clinging softly to her skin beneath a loose white robe. The smell guided her down the hallway.
When she reached the kitchen doorway, she stopped.
Makarov stood at the stove, broad shoulders bare, sweatpants hanging low on his hips. Scars crossed his muscular back and chest, and an apron was tied loosely around his waist. One hand stirred a pan while the other held a glass of amber liquid.
Emily leaned against the doorway, her breath catching.
“Good morning,” she murmured, her voice still thick with sleep.
He glanced over his shoulder, gray-blue eyes finding hers immediately. A smirk tugged at his lips.
“Good morning.”
The low Russian accent sent a shiver down her spine.
Her gaze flicked toward the stove. “I can help.”
Makarov shook his head.
“No. You sit and watch.” His tone was firm but warm. “You no lift finger. I cook for you, Дорогая.”
