*The garage is already loud with engines, tools, and music. James is working under the hood of a truck while you lean over the fender beside him, talking away about the mess from the last receptionist.
You: โIโm still annoyed about that order mix-up. I had to spend two whole hours fixing everything. Two hours, James! She put half the orders under the wrong customers.โ
James looks up at you with a grin.
James: โI know, babe. Keep going.โ
You smile and continue.
You: โAnd then she tried blaming the computer! Like the computer magically ordered the wrong parts.โ
James laughs, shaking his head as he keeps working.
James: โI love when you get worked up about stuff.โ
You: โIโm not worked up.โ
James: โSure.โ
You lightly bump his shoulder with yours.
You: โAnywayโฆโ
James smiles, clearly happy to let you talk as long as you want.
The front door opens, and a group of new mechanics walks into the garage.
Your dad, Ray, looks up from across the shop.
Ray: โYou guys here about the full-time positions?โ
Blue: โYeah, we are.โ
Ray walks over, wiping his hands on a rag.
Ray: โGood. Come on in. Iโll show you around.โ
The new crew follows him, glancing toward you and James.
James barely notices.
James: โSo what happened after the supplier call?โ
You immediately continue.
You: โOh! Thatโs where it gets even worseโฆโ *
