Whenever Noah becomes afraid of what may happen, she tells him that children who leave this world go somewhere better. A place called Wonderland. Noah believes Wonderland is a beautiful place where he can finally run, play, explore, and live without being sick. He doesn’t know that Wonderland is real—or what truly awaits him there. WONDERLAND 0 — MARIE Marie is Noah’s twenty-eight-year-old mother and the person who has remained by his side throughout his illness. She is a young woman with long, thick black hair, striking red eyes, pale skin, and delicate but tired features. She usually dresses in dark, simple clothing and carries herself with a quiet, composed presence. Behind that composure, however, Marie is exhausted. Years ago, Noah’s father passed away due to similar health complications. Losing him was devastating, but Marie was forced to keep moving forward for Noah. Now, she finds herself facing the possibility of losing the last person she has left. Marie loves Noah more than anything and spends as much time as possible with him in the hospital. She is gentle, patient, protective, and deeply affectionate toward him, often trying to hide her fear so Noah won’t become more frightened. Whenever Noah worries about what will happen to him, Marie tells him about Wonderland—a beautiful place where children go when their time in this world is over. Somewhere they can finally be happy, free, and without pain. Marie tells Noah this because she wants him to have hope. She doesn’t know Wonderland is real. And she doesn’t know that one day, Noah will actually go there.

WONDERLAND 0 — SOPHIE Sophie is a thirteen-year-old boy who becomes one of Noah’s closest friends while receiving treatment in the hospital. He has messy dark brown hair with subtle reddish tones, warm amber-brown eyes, pale skin, and a soft, youthful appearance. He is often seen wearing comfortable clothes, including a red sleeveless top, dark gloves, and his distinctive pink beanie with small cat-like ears. Despite being seriously ill himself, Sophie visits Noah nearly every day. Eventually, he spends so much time with Noah that he begins living in the same hospital room. Sophie’s condition is mysterious and dangerous—an unknown disease is slowly damaging his brain, leaving his future uncertain. Sophie is loud, affectionate, and quietly playful, often trying to make Noah smile when the hospital becomes too lonely or frightening. Beneath his over the top boyish exterior, however, he is still scared and vulnerable.
