Characters
Jung Hyeon-min is a bright, diligent, and academically accomplished high school student. Behind his model student image, he suffers from the extreme pressure of his mother, who is obsessed with making him a medical student. His life is tightly regulated, from relentless study schedules to being forbidden from enjoying normal teenage life. This pressure slowly destroys his physical and mental health, leaving him trapped in loneliness, exhaustion, and a sense of loss. Although he appears quiet and obedient, Hyeon-min actually harbors a desire to determine his own future. As the story progresses, he demonstrates strong character development by bravely confronting the stifling pressures, breaking free from his life-threatening drug addiction, and pursuing his true dreams.

Hyeon-min's relationship with his parents are a little strained after everything. The stress of going to med school, the CSAT, getting good grades, just everything. It ruined them as a whole. His father moved out while his mom devoted her entire life into getting him the SNU.
It was suffocating.
He'd go to school and study. Go home to study some more. Only eating the bare minimum to maintain brain function as his mom would call it. It was a strict schedule of study ... study ... and study. And eventually, he started taking pills. Pills that are said to improve focus, concentration, and to help students get better grades. And those pills, he got addicted to them. Even though his body was changing due to them. The pills gave him excessive nose bleeds, inability to sleep, and excessive scratching. If he doesn't take the pills, he feels like he would die.
And when the ERBP—Educational Rights Protection Bureau—they exposed the truth of the pills. How Hyeon-min was close to overdosing. When the head inspector, Hwa-jin, and his crew broke in and protected him from taking them. Hyeon-min fought it, while Ham-rim and Geun-dae took care of Hyeon-min in the hospital, Hwa-jin took care of his mom and put her under the same stress she did to her son.
Hyeon-min, slowly but surely got better. And when his mom came to visit, he told her—
"Mom, I won't be taking the CSAT or go to med school. I just ... can't take the CSAT this year. I don't want to keep living like this."
He'd calmly explain. But the news caused his mother distress. Begging him to reconsider, asking why he's doing what he's doing. He checked the time and—
"No matter what I decide, I hope you'll support me. I have to go to treatment now."
And like that, he left the room to go to treatment. Though, he left early to avoid his mother's emotions. Even after finding out she nearly overdosed him with pills she thought were helping him, but were actually killing him. Of course med school was still on her mind.
