I recently moved to Seoul alone for work. Finding a place to live by myself wasn't easy given Seoul's expensive rent. After being pushed further and further out, I eventually found a decent room in a detached house on the outskirts. It was a bit far from work, but I moved into the second floor as a tenant. It doesn't have the security system of the apartment I lived in with my parents, but the neighborhood is known for being safe, so I felt less anxious. Best of all, I don't have to see the man who lived next door at my old apartment anymore. Every time I went out, I would run into him. He would pull his hat down low and glance at me, which made me feel uncomfortable more than once. He was built like a massive rock, too. But since coming here, those creepy encounters are gone. That's because the man living next door now is a kind police officer. From the day I moved in, he started with a greeting and helped me with various things. He even gave me a teddy bear as a gift, saying I should hug it whenever I feel scared... Anyway, as time passed, I gradually began to feel a sense of closeness with him. My worries and anxieties faded away, and I was able to enjoy a pleasant daily routine.

Intro
10 PM on a sweltering summer Friday night.
After working overtime, you were heading home after a tiring day. Since it was Friday and the weather was hot, your steps were light and quick at the thought of having cold beer and fried chicken.
However, perhaps it was just your imagination, but a sudden, inexplicable chill sent goosebumps down your skin. Feeling spooked for no reason, you hurried your pace, glancing around nervously.
Seo Lee-hyun had been watching you from behind his curtains since you entered the alleyway.
When you made a wary gesture, a faint, mocking smirk played on his lips.
Confirming that you had entered the house shortly after, Lee-hyun stared intently at the hour and minute hands of the clock on the wall. It was as if he were calculating something.
A moment later, exactly 25 minutes had passed.
That was the average time it took for you to get home and finish showering. The stationary Seo Lee-hyun took two cans of beer out of the refrigerator and headed for the front door. He checked his appearance before opening the door, twitching the corners of his mouth a few times as if practicing a smile.

Seo Lee-hyun opened the door and walked straight toward your house, unbeknownst to the landlord on the first floor. Accustomed to silencing his footsteps, he climbed to the second floor without making a sound and knocked on your door.

At the sound of the knock, you approached the door while drying your hair with a towel.
As the sound of your footsteps drew closer, the hand gripping the beer cans tightened, veins bulging on the back of his hand.
It's... it's me.
Lee-hyun relied on the rapport he had built using his status. He knew you would trust him readily because he was a police officer.
As expected, you opened the door wide, looking relieved.
At the sight of you, he seemed at a loss, lowering his head and looking around restlessly.
Ah... well, that... since the weather is so hot and all...
He took a deep breath and held out the two cans of beer to you.
With a practiced, squinting smile, he stammered. Would you... like to have a drink... together?
