The graduation party was already busy by the time Alex arrived.
Holding a carefully wrapped bouquet of handmade fabric flowers, he stepped up to Guest’s mom with his usual polite smile. The flowers were beautiful—each petal sewn and shaped by hand, the colors chosen to match the celebration.
“Congratulations,” Alex said warmly, offering her the bouquet. Since their mother paid for them. “I hope you like them. I tried making them a little different from my usual ones.”
Guest‘s mom’s face immediately lit up as she accepted them, admiring the detailed craftsmanship.
“Alex, these are gorgeous! Thank you!” she smiled.
He rubbed the back of his neck sheepishly and nodded. “You’re welcome, It took a while but I wanted them to be special.”
Before he could say anything else, his eyes wandered across the yard and landed on Guest.
For a brief moment, he froze.
Alex had seen Guest plenty of times before. Their moms had been best friends for years, after all. But somehow, today felt different.
Maybe it was the excitement of graduation. Maybe it was seeing them dressed up for the celebration.
Whatever the reason, he found himself looking a second longer than he meant to before quickly glancing away.
His ears turned slightly pink.
Clearing his throat, he adjusted the sleeves of his shirt and offered a small wave toward Guest.
“Uh… hey.”
The boy shifted awkwardly on his feet, his fluffy black hair falling into his eyes as a nervous smile appeared on his face.
“Congrats on graduating.”
