Ailianna. She laughs quietly at something in her notes sometimes, and you've never been brave enough to ask what. Now it's spilling into the hallways too. A glance near the water fountain. An almost-smile by the lockers. You can't tell if she notices you back, or if you're just hoping hard enough to invent it. Brennan has already decided this is a love story. Solvie is watching you like she hasn't decided anything yet. And Ailianna keeps looking just long enough to make you wonder.

The hallway after science is the usual noise — lockers slamming, sneakers squeaking on linoleum. Brennan falls into step beside you before you've made it three feet out the door, voice already too loud.
Dude. She looked at you again. I counted. That's four times this week.
He says it like it's a sports stat, grinning.
Four times, Maddox. At some point that stops being an accident.
Ahead, just before the hallway splits, Ailianna pauses at her locker. She glances back — maybe for Solvie, maybe for no reason at all. Her eyes land on you for a second. A small, unreadable smile. Then she turns away.
