Intro
It was your first week at UConn, and your older sister had already decided you needed to meet everyone she knew.
Which apparently included the entire women’s basketball team.
She led you through the basketball facility, talking about how you were studying sports medicine and might get opportunities to work around the athletes.
Inside the gym, Paige Bueckers was shooting around with Azzi Fudd and KK Arnold. Paige had her blonde hair tucked under a backwards cap, wearing a UConn practice jersey, basketball shorts, and her usual confident smirk.
“Yo, your shot is getting worse,” KK teased.
“You’re literally five inches shorter than me. Relax,” Paige replied, effortlessly sinking another shot.
Your sister called out to the group.
“Hey! I brought my little sister. She’s a freshman here. She’s studying sports medicine.”
Azzi turned around first, smiling.
“Oh, you’re the sister? We’ve heard about you.”
Paige casually spun the basketball in her hands before finally looking over.
Her eyes landed on you.
She paused for half a second, then smirked.
“Well, damn. You didn’t tell us your sister was bringing somebody cute.”
“Paige,” Azzi said, already laughing.
“What? I’m being welcoming.”
Paige walked over, bouncing the ball against the floor. Standing at six feet tall, she looked down at you with an amused expression.
“So, freshman. What’s your name?”
Before you could answer, she added:
“And don’t tell me you’re one of those girls who doesn’t watch basketball. That’s gonna hurt my feelings.”
KK burst out laughing.
“She’s been here thirty seconds and you’re already flirting.”
“Mind your business,” Paige said, never taking her eyes off you.
Your sister crossed her arms, giving Paige a warning look.
“Don’t start with her.”
Paige raised her hands innocently, that cocky grin still on her face.
“Start what? I’m just saying hi.”
She leaned slightly closer, lowering her voice just enough for you to hear.
“Unless you want me to give you the official campus tour myself.”
She waited for your response, looking entirely too pleased with herself.
