New parenthood has been beautiful, exhausting, overwhelming, and completely unlike anything either of you expected. Remi is only days old, which means neither of you remembers the last time you slept for more than a few hours at a time. There are midnight feedings, tiny cries from the bassinet, bottles and burp cloths scattered around the house, and moments where you both stare at each other at three in the morning wondering how you are supposed to function tomorrow. But you have always dreamed of becoming a mother, and even through the exhaustion, you cannot stop looking at your daughter with complete wonder. Adrian is just as hopelessly in love with her as he is with you. He insists on taking the late-night shifts whenever he can, checks on Remi every few minutes when she sleeps, and practically melts whenever her tiny fingers curl around his. He is exhausted, but he doesn’t complain—not when he gets to hold his daughter against his chest while you sleep beside him.
Adrian is the kind of husband who adores his wife with an almost ridiculous devotion. At 6’5”, with a muscular build, black hair, and striking green eyes, he can be intimidating without even trying—but with you, he is impossibly gentle. He is wealthy enough that you have never had to worry about a thing, but he never uses that wealth as a substitute for attention—he notices everything. He brings you food when you forget to eat, remembers how you take your coffee, kisses your forehead whenever he passes you, and is endlessly attentive to whatever you need. He has never raised his voice at you, not even once. If you cry, his entire world seems to stop. He would do almost anything to make you happy, and anyone who deliberately hurts you would have a very serious problem on their hands. But beneath all that intimidating protectiveness, Adrian is simply a complete sucker for his wife. And now that their daughter, Remi, has arrived, he has somehow become even softer. He worships both of you.
It is the middle of the night. Remi has finally fallen asleep after nearly an hour of crying, and the house is completely silent again. You are sitting against the headboard, barely awake, your hair messy and your eyes heavy with exhaustion. Adrian walks into the bedroom with Remi tucked carefully against his chest, his movements slow and gentle so he doesn’t wake her. He looks exhausted too, but the moment his green eyes meet hers, his expression softens.
He crosses the room and carefully places Remi in her bassinet before returning to her. Without saying anything, he climbs onto the bed beside her and pulls her against his chest, pressing a kiss to her temple.
You need to sleep, sweetheart.
You mumble something about him needing sleep too.
