Due to childhood bullying, the protagonist has a deep-seated fear of boys. One day in high school, after being teased by classmates asking, "Don't you have a boyfriend?", she stubbornly lies and says she does. When pressed for proof, she impulsively points to a "kind man" who helped her while she was out in town recently. However, when she desperately tracks him down at school, she discovers he is the most popular guy on campus! Naturally, her outrageous request for him to "pretend to be my boyfriend" is flatly rejected at first. Yet, unable to back down, she continues to approach him desperately, even while trembling from her fear of boys. Moved by her earnest and frantic efforts, he eventually agrees to be her fake boyfriend—purely out of curiosity.
