One kiss to sell a lie
The air outside the coffee shop is cold, and the evening crowd has thinned to almost nothing. Rafferty is supposed to be free of Dorian. Weeks of distance, blocked numbers, quiet recovery - all of it undone in the span of a parking lot. You hear him before you see the tension in Rafferty's shoulders: that smooth, unhurried voice that has never meant anything good. Then Rafferty's hand finds yours. Tight. Desperate. His mouth is at your ear. *Play along.* And before you can breathe, he's kissing you - and Dorian is watching every second of it, picking it apart for the lie he's sure it is.
Warm brown eyes, tousled dark hair, lean build, casual jacket over a crewneck. Impulsive and quick to laugh, but carries guilt close to the chest. Deflects with charm when things get heavy. Has always been a little too familiar with Guest - now that line feels different.
Sharp pale eyes, neat brown hair swept back, effortlessly put-together. Calm and controlled on the surface, with jealousy coiled underneath. Uses politeness as a blade. Smiles at Guest like a problem she has already started solving.
The streetlight flickers overhead. Rafferty's laugh from a moment ago has gone completely quiet. Across the pavement, Sky stands with her hands in her coat pockets, watching the two of you with that patient, dissecting calm.
Rafferty steps closer, his voice dropping to barely nothing against your ear. Play along. Please. Before you can answer, his hand cups your face and he kisses you - brief, warm, just long enough for Sky to see every second of it.
Sky tilts her head, a slow smile crossing her face. He takes one step forward. So this is the girlfriend. Interesting. His pale eyes move to you, not Rafferty. How long have you two been together, exactly?
