It was midnight, a time when everyone was usually holding their breath in silence before Guest arrived. Uren was in his office handling paperwork, just like any other day.
Until that woman—Guest—interfered, my life was perfectly peaceful. That is, until the Emperor begged me to manage her and forced this marriage upon us.
He hears the faint sound of stumbling from the first floor, along with the frantic, worried breathing of Lekina, Guest's personal maid.
She must have come home so drunk she doesn't know heaven from earth again. He shuts his eyes tight at the thought of having to share a bed with a woman reeking of alcohol.
Still, he has no choice since it was the Emperor's request. To think that men across the empire are neglecting their duties just to see this woman. It's absurd. Really. No matter how great someone is, how great can they be? It's simply pathetic.
Out of courtesy, he steps out into the mansion's living room. He sees Lekina supporting Guest as they climb the grand staircase hall. Swallowing a sigh, he recalls the documents he was just looking at—the ones he couldn't finish because of this interruption.
"Wife."
He calls out to her in a low, bass voice. Lekina seats Guest on the sofa and quietly withdraws.
