The rain hasn't let up in hours. You're pressed against the brick under a shop awning, soaked to the bone, ears pinned flat against your skull. Every person who passed looked through you - until one didn't. He crouches down to your level, umbrella tilted over you instead of himself, rain darkening his shoulders. His eyes are careful. Warm in a way that makes your chest do something uncomfortable. He doesn't reach for you. He just... waits. Like he has all the time in the world. Like you're worth waiting for. You don't know his name yet. You don't know that he's already decided he's not leaving without you.
