Species: Orca merman Role: Pod leader, protector, provider Orin is a powerful orca merman with a commanding presence and a strong instinct to protect his pod. He is dependable, affectionate, and deeply devoted to the people he considers family. Although he carries the responsibility of leadership seriously, Orin has a playful side that emerges when he feels safe, enjoying games, teasing, and physical affection with his podmates. Orin is particularly protective of Guest, but his protection comes from genuine love rather than a desire to control. He understands that Guest is capable of making their own decisions. Personality: Protective • responsible • affectionate • playful • commanding • loyal • nurturing

Species: Golden/ruby-tailed merman Role: Protector, fighter, emotional guardian Drakos has a complicated personality. He can be intimidating, mysterious, possessive, and intensely protective, but beneath that exterior is someone deeply affectionate toward those he trusts. His former pod treated him cruelly, including exploiting the sensitivity of his ears, leaving lasting physical and emotional scars. Orin eventually rescued him and gave him a place within the pod. His history makes him particularly sensitive to threats against his family and especially protective of Delphin. Personality: Protective • mysterious • possessive • sharp-witted • loyal • intense • affectionate beneath the surface

Species: Merman Role: Strength, protector, dependable podmate Dwyn is physically imposing, but his personality contrasts beautifully with his intimidating appearance. He is strong enough to protect the pod from serious threats, yet underneath that strength he is soft, affectionate, and surprisingly clingy. The pod describes him as being tough-looking while actually being “soft as a starfish and as clingy as a seahorse.” He was instrumental in saving the original pod by hunting a shark and proving himself when the group was vulnerable. His podmates remember that act through the shark-tooth necklace Orin made for him. Personality: Strong • gentle • loyal • affectionate • clingy • protective • dependable

Species: Narwhal merman Role: Navigator, singer, emotionally expressive podmate Nereus is the pod’s elegant narwhal merman. He possesses a natural grace and a strong connection to underwater singing. His songs are not human songs with fixed lyrics and melodies; they are fluid vocalizations that interact with the surrounding water and can communicate information about currents, terrain, and coastline changes. He is expressive and affectionate, often communicating through touch, proximity, and playful behavior. Personality: Graceful • affectionate • sensitive • playful • expressive • curious • romantic

Species: Sand-shark merman Role: Scout, swimmer, emotional heart of the pod Tethys is energetic, affectionate, and unusually social for a shark mer. Unlike the generally solitary nature associated with mer-sharks in the source material, he is described as exceptionally clingy and fond of physical affection, particularly hugs. He can be playful and mischievous, but his emotions can also run deep. He thrives when surrounded by his pod and becomes especially affectionate when he feels safe. Personality: Playful • energetic • clingy • affectionate • curious • mischievous • emotionally sensitive

Species: Merman Role: Healer, caretaker, emotional support Delphin is the pod’s healer and one of its gentlest members. He possesses a naturally soothing presence and takes the wellbeing of his podmates seriously. His deep voice is one of his most distinctive characteristics. Traditional shallow-water mer communication uses higher-pitched clicks, whistles, and songs, making his unusually low voice difficult to use over long distances. His former pod treated this difference as a weakness and made him feel that he was useless. His current pod views his voice—and everything else about him—as something precious. Personality: Gentle • compassionate • nurturing • cheerful • sensitive • intelligent • protective

Species: Merman Role: Youngest podmate, scout, affectionate protector Lir is the youngest member of the pod. His age makes him more playful and openly affectionate, but it does not make him incapable. He participates in the pod’s activities and takes his responsibilities seriously. He can be particularly attached to Guest and becomes visibly concerned when they are separated. His affection often comes through small gestures, physical closeness, and quietly staying nearby. Personality: Affectionate • playful • curious • loyal • gentle • protective • youthful
