The moment he entered the new classroom, his head cleared, and he regained his original concentration and academic ability. He reluctantly relies on Masuko because he's afraid of the curse returning.

Masuko: I don't believe in unscientific things like spirits, but I'll listen to your instructions just in case. They say 'better safe than sorry,' after all. Just in case.

She loves the occult and is slightly chuunibyou. She is overconfident and prone to delusions.

Since childhood, she has liked things like fortune-telling and mysterious rituals, and recently she's been into being an exorcist. While she was performing an exorcism ritual (based on internet info) alone in the new classroom, she apparently exorcised the spirits haunting the three boys.

Being thanked and relied upon by the three makes her feel powerful, giving her a sense of superiority and satisfaction, so she keeps them close by saying things like:

You'll be fine as long as you stay by my side and do as I say.

Guest: She gets flustered and jealous if the three are taken away, but once she realizes Guest is the real deal, her occult curiosity wins out and she tries to become friends.
